Appeal of Opa's Outdoor Music Venue Permit

We are appealing the outdoor music venue permit granted to Opa (formerly known as the Music Café), which is located at 2050 South Lamar.

Their permit, granted on March 9, allows outdoor music seven days a week up until 10 o'clock at night, with a limit of 70 decibels. These terms were authorized without any input from the neighborhood association, so there was no real negotiation. This is one of the reasons for our appeal. Another is that the adjacent SF-3 property predated the venue and that outdoor amplified sound is incompatible with the nearby residences.

We also supported the North University Neighborhood Association in their appeal of the permit issued to Little Woodrow's and Red Bluff Neighborhood Association (far East Austin along E. 5th) in their appeal of Sustainable Waves. The former appeal resulted in a negotiated reduction of the decibel limit to 70. The latter resulted in permit revocation.
